Experimental and Numerical Evaluation of Mechanically Stabilized Earth Wall with Deformed Steel Bars Embedded in Tire Shred-Sand Mixture

This article presents the experimental and numerical analysis behavior on Mechanically Stabilized Earth Wall (MSE) under applied overburden load performed 1.5 m high, 0.9 width, 1.2 length reinforced with deformed steel bars embedded in sand alone tires shred-sand mixture. The study investigates how bars, strength, geometry affect failure mechanism. top of wall was laden additional weight at various stages to explore pre-failure behavior. horizontal displacements were measured using potentiometers face by placed loading plate. results observations compared derived from a model created Plaxis 3D software. Numerical modeling also assess MSE (3D model) mechanism walls. parameters for models independent tests results, which observations. A good level agreement measurements confirmed data. From it deduced that 30 kPa 40 kPa, tire mixture reinforcement gave 36% 58% reduction deflection reinforcement. difference between values ranges 12% 15%.
